i think the problem with wind and solar is the cost to get it setup is too great for many people to just get it setup. i know solar panels have gone down a lot over the years but when it first came out it was just out of the question. wind is also hard to harness, if there's no wind there's no power...i would love to see rooftops with a wind/solar setup as a primary source of energy and when there isn't enough then we'll tap into the electricity provided by the electric companies, would probably save a lot of money in the long run but i'm sure lobbyists would hate it as it'll hurt their profits
